I remember the exact moment when Matt asked, "Would you ever move to Charlotte?"He was standing in the doorway and I had my back to him, putting away socks in a dresser. We lived in Richmond, Virginia at the time. Without thinking much about it, I turned around and shrugged, "It's just an interview." Blame it on my being born and raised in Texas, and bleeding burnt orange, but in my mind, our next move would always take us to Austin. I had it all planned out in my head. Little bungalow in 78704 and all. A couple of weeks ago, I got a phone call. It was Matt, calling from San Francisco after spending the day meeting with potential new coworkers. I could hear the busy city life behind him, and after taking a deep breath he said, "I really like it here." When we hung up, I thought to myself, It's just an interview. But it's wasn't. After much discussion, Matt accepted a job in San Francisco and we are moving 2,710 miles across the country (1,759 miles from Austin, not that I'm counting). Although we have so much to do before we can leave North Carolina, we are both very excited about what the future will bring. And I have realized after 12 years of us both being in the ad business: it's never just an interview.
